One of the major things to plan is where to stay. Because we decided to travel in a Recreational Vehicle ("RV"), we don't need to book hotel rooms. Instead, we have to figure out what RV parks to stay in. In deciding on an RV park, one of the main criteria is what facilities and ammenities we want.
RV's are designed for "boondocking," or camping without hookups. Hookups allow RVers the ability to use unlimited water and run items that require electricity, such as televisions and air conditioners. Most RV parks provide either partial hookups, which include electricity and water, or full hookups, which add sewer service. Some deluxe parks also include hookups for cable television and telephone lines.
I was introduced to a mobile app called ParkAdvisor. ParkAdvisor is a resource that shows all the RV parks anywhere in the world. It details what each park offers in terms of hookups and amenities. It also shows reviews of the parks if ones were made. Futher, it provides contact information for each RV park.
In addition to ParkAdvisor, I used another mobile app called AllStays Camp & RV. This app was very useful in finding gas stations, dump sites, RV sites, low clearance roads and bridges, grocery stores and more.
To properly plan our trip, I found these apps invaluable. If you are planning an RV trip, I would highly recommend downloading these apps. The AllStays app was $9.99 but the ParkAdvisor app is free to download.
Here's a great tip. Make your reservations ahead of time. Most campgrounds fill up fast. Even though we were making our reservations ahead of time, there were a number of places that were already booked.
